​The cross-border project “Eurocidade Chaves-Verín” has been awarded as best European Union project in the RegioStars prizes in 2015 in the category CityStars.

RegioStars is an initiative organised by the European Commission since 2008 with the aim of awarding the most innovative and inspirational projects financed by the EU Cohesion Funds

The project “Eurociudade” competed with other five initiatives from Sweden, France, Spain and Norway. The jury, chaired by MEP Lambert van Nistelrooij,  pointed out that the Eurociudade Chaves-Verín is one of the best exsisting experiences in Europe in the field of cooperation and integration.

The Eurocidade project has been co-financed by the POCTEP 2007/2013 at approximately EUR 1,4 million and improved the cooperation between the two towns of Verin (Spain) and Chaves (Portugal) carried out at institutional, economic, social, cultural and environmental level.
