The EU regulation No. 1082/2006 celebrates its tenth anniversary this year. Through the establishment of European groupings of territorial cooperation (EGTC) a new legal entity has been formed, facilitating and supporting territorial cooperation of the member states and their public bodies. With 59 groupings created across Europe until the beginning of 2016, we have gained invaluable practical experience. 10 years after the introduction of the EGTC regulation, it is now time for a critical assessment of this instrument.
For this purpose, the EGTC Centre of Excellence would like to invite you to a conference at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder). We kindly ask you to save September 15th, 2016, in your calendars. During the conference, we would like to investigate whether EGTC have proven effective and established their position within the EU and third states. In which areas the obstacles may have not been overcome? Are the obstacles of a legal, administrative or perhaps political nature? Further information about the conference will follow in spring.
The EGTC Centre of Excellence is a project supported by the Viadrina Center B/ORDERS IN MOTION at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder). Its main objective is the interdisciplinary research of this specific instrument of the cross-border, transnational and interregional cooperation of public entities.
