​​​This EGTC intends to further develop the territorial cooperation relations which are already in place between the municipalities of the “Iberian Pyrite Stripe”.

This consists in establishing a new framework that will ensure a more structural cooperation in view of achieving the maximum economic, social and territorial cohesion among the populations of the two States involved. The aim is furthermore to consolidate the cordial relations between the municipalities of the EGTC.

Faja Piritica aims at: 

• Developing the territorial cooperation relations that currently exist between the municipalities of the Iberian Pyrite Stripe;
• Establishing a new framework that will ensure a more structural cooperation in view of achieving the maximum economic, social and territorial cohesion among the populations of the two States involved;
• Consolidate the cordial relations between the municipalities of the EGTC

Tasks
The EGTC’s purpose is cooperation in the fields of cultural heritage, tourism and local development. The valorisation of the mining heritage is crucial, as it is part of the identity of the two areas. 
The EGTC has approved to draft strategic and action plans to put the EGTC into motion. The plan should serve as a roadmap. The EGTC envisages the implementation of the Europe 2020 strategy in the future. This dimension was included in the action plan; however, since it is not yet approved, there is no such action towards Europe 2020 strategy yet.
 The EGTC will identify potential obstacles in the future when it will become more involved in the subject. As long as the action plan is not yet approved, no impact could be evaluated.
 The grouping is not yet involved in ETC. It intends to cooperate with some mining companies that would be new members of private law.

Challenges or issues
The involvement of the regional administration like Junta de Andalucía and CCDR ALENTEJO is crucial because the EGTC FPI lacks economic and staff resources, as it is composed of small local authorities. The EGTC finds itself currently in a critical state.

Impact of changes of EGTC regulation on EGTC
No negative impact at all. The changes in the EGTC regulation were an improvement.
