17 November 2015
Flemish Parliament, Brussels
On 17 November, the 7th Subsidiarity Conference took place at the Flemish Parliament in Brussels, with over 200 participants taking part. The Conference is held every two years and seeks to strengthen the EU inter-institutional dialogue on subsidiarity scrutiny, allowing for a true exchange between all players involved in the subsidiarity monitoring process. This year, the Conference was organised jointly by the Committee of the Regions and the Flemish Parliament Alongside the traditional focus on subsidiarity monitoring, this year's Conference put the spotlight on Better Regulation.
One of the main conclusions arising from the debate was that Better regulation and its application in practice is a matter of primary concern not only for the EU institutions and Member States, but also for local and regional authorities. The debate highlighted that Better regulation cannot work without the correct application of the principles of subsidiarity and proportionality.
The 7th edition of the Conference also gave its participants the opportunity to learn more about the specific role of the Flemish Parliament in European politics.
The summary document of the Conference will be made available soon on this website. The press release can be found
